My view of this sport. And boating too, for that matter!

When I stopped fishing off shore I bought an old Aquasport 25 foot xpress fisherman, my son's helped in restoring the boat to the point that I felt it was seaworthy and safe enough on the water, We used it a lot the first couple of years, then I signed a 5 year contract that has taken a lot of time away from my fishing because I'm on call 24/7/365, now the contract is winding down, I'm going to sell this boat for whatever I can get for it and buy a bigger boat, put in a marina and use the bejeezus out of it , I miss trailering my 25' cc boat to R.I. back in the early 80's.
My fishing partner in Hampton bays is moving to Oregon to be with family, my Shinnecock connection is now gone,I will miss our shoot outs and a very close friend.
So this year, I'm am stepping up my game, maybe lol :cool:. I only fished 6 times last year, 2 times over in L.I., I'm use to staying out for weeks at a time.

just lucky I guess as we returned from Yellowstone and the area in mid-May and was out on the water once or twice a week after.

It sounds like you need to get back into the game It does suck that you're fishing buddy is moving west though.

Scupper - there were two weekends in August that were horrible on the South Shore. We killed HUNDREDS of the little bastids, but they just kept coming. This was 9 miles offshore, so I can just imagine how bad it was more inshore, like at the ABR. Absolutely slayed the fish both of those weekends, but we paid the price in blood, literally. The little vampires were so viscious that they bit right thru repeated applications of Deep Woods Off. Hate those things!

WE had three or four different types of bug spray , even tried WD -40 on the ankles , nothing worked .... Chased us off the water ........... Fishing stunk too ....
South Shore Fluking was slow for me last year , North Shore was even worse ....
Still trying to figure out the rules for Reynolds Channel , 5 mile signs everywhere yet 80% of the fleet zipping along , finally on the day of the Fly assault the Bay Constable pulls us over , nice guys who then explain its OK to Zip along outside the channel markers on the North Side of Channel .....
Doesn't make sense to me , but what the heck , I'll gladly play by their rules ..........

My Go To night salt marsh repellent is Vick's Vaporub and a good stogie for the face...

I don't know how you missed them unless you weren't on the water for those two weeks. I fished from Freeport and then from Captree and they were in both places.

They were out of control mid sound in August as well ....... never seen it so bad. I was using sun screen spray to whack-em. They crashed to the deck rubbing their little eyes. Then we stomped on them.

I am usually a bug magnet. Have to spray down or wear long pants at barbecues. ( ?? )

Those 'Mid Sound' buggers come from CT , they hurt when they bite .... More single biters .......... Those Ocean critters are smaller , gang up together , Don't hurt as much , BUT leave blood flowing if not swatted away ........
