Yesterday I tried near citifield for stripers. There was alot of bait in the water. Peanut bunker and spearing. My fishing friend told me about this spot. It's behind the ice skating rink. It's in flushing meadow park. Also a golf course there. I didn't catch anything but I did see peanuts jumping out of the water. I was surprised to see alot of blue claw crabs there. It's brackish water. I wouldn't eat anything there the water is disgusting was algea blooms. Green water and I have seen people take fish out of there and crabs. Hope they have a good doctor. Not sure when my next trip is

Today I tried flushing bay again and the water was alive with peanuts getting chased all over by bass. I did have several hits but no hookups. What is a good lure that mimics peanut bunker. Lots of peanuts in there. Soon the big bunker will be in there. And the bass. I used a one ounce diamond jig a small spoon a bigger spoon top water. Nothing. Tight lines.

If a small number of bass are gorging on endless small bait, that's an unfortunate reality. All's you can do is select one lure, I'd say either small tin (Krocodile or Kastmaster), or my favorite, a Metallic Creek Chub Striper Strike 2500 and vary your retrieve in terms of speed, sweeps of the rod, twitches, etc. With the Creek Chub, a sinking popper, if a fish swirls at it and doesn't make contact, momentarily STOP your retrieve for a second or two and hold on, they often will grab it as it sinks.

I caught a small bass on the swim shad today. Also I saw big bass chasing the peanuts all over the place today. Chased them right up to the wall. Was wild.

That video is a great tool to show people how NOT to handle and release striped bass!!!

What was the purpose of keeping the fish out of the water that long to make a video and them casually toss it back?

In the future stick to posting Hurricane Updates, and pay more attention to gently and quickly returning short bass to the water.

I too was gasping for air watching that poor juvenile struggle.
Please be a bit more considerate in the future, Bassmaster.

First time I ever saw someone post a photo op with a 6" striper!

C'mon man. I'm the furthest from a tree hugger but really????

Was the video more important than getting that baby back in the water?

Poor judgement......

Yesterday I went fishing at the bridge I didn't catch anything. Tried 6 different lures and peanut bunker that I fouled hooked. I fished from 1:40 to 3:15 I only had one hit. Not sure when my next trip is.

Went again today. Not going back until the big bass come in. Peanut bunker spearing and 3 to 5 inch bass in there. Another fisherman was there using bait and he caught near 20 bass 3 to 5 inches. When the big fish come in I will go back. Going to kissena going forward until the big bass arrive.
