newell side plates

Cracked the damn sideplate on my newell 229.....anyone know the ramifications of continued use like that....can they be repaired? It's a red one to boot ...but well used...I'm not a collector...I use em and abuse em. Probably thinking I'll have to get a black sideplate eventually and make it a black and red

Thanks stinks Gene! You can probably find black ones somewhere. If not I’d just buy a blackie 229 on eBay and have some extra parts.

it's the side plate opposite the handle side...putting both sides up for reference..thanks for looking

I wouldn't use it that way. That's not just a crack, the thing is blown out. Something is up there. Either improper assembly or overloading, but where that failed is what supports the spool. No good can come of that.

I over tightened it and it is used by someone who could easily poison me when she finds out

but yup it's shot!!

Well, buy a new side plate and use her nail polish to paint it then.

I can't even find a 220 blue listed anywhere on the net.....but anyway I'm tired of looking at it...gonna start using it. May have used it twice.

I damn near had a clear newell when they came out...had the damn thing in my shopping cart at charkbait but it got pulled back....it was like 179.00 and now like 1000.00 but I would have fished it....worth more for the "cool" factor
