Council has approved 145 day season, 5/4 thru 9/25, 3 fluke at 18" or >. This meets fed 28% reduction mandate.
Great to see so many people made comments (in person and over Webinar), the council mentioned this was the most comments they ever received and appreciated the public input.
Feedback indicated that last year's slot was not well received and statewide agreement on the approved option that provided the longest season was evident.

Vacuum sealer when I catch something two or three days in a row. They really need to look at a slot limit for fluke. Hell, it seems that some guys just want to take a photo anyway LOL!
A local B&T owner once said he agreed with me about slots, lesser bag, etc. but that the party boats who 'rule the roost' would never go along with it and were most vocal. Even when the keeper ration was 1in 20 he said its just the "hope" that someone can bring home four legal fish was what kept them in business. So much for a nice day spent on the water with family and friends.

I have a friend that does a lot of back bay fishing, he fishes from Lindenhurst to the Wantagh’s bridges. He puts his time in and zeroes in on there feeding, I have to say when he gets it zoned in he does very well. When he figures what part of the tide that’s when he fishes and of course where the fish are.

The option that came in 2nd place at last night's council meeting included a 1" smaller size for shore/pier/jetty caught keepers. This option would've been popular if it included a longer season.
