july thru sept any southshore ocean beachfront tanden rigged #4 beak hooks clams for bait .look for a slough behind a outer bar most times right up on the lip of the surf.Should keep you into kingfish till the bass come home. Look for places the have lots of sand fleas (mole crabs) the kings wont be far.

Good to know,I never caught one even by accident in the surf..
 
Catch a few every year when drifting for fluke and porgy fishing around Western CT. I never cooked them up before though.

I found the skin n on them is very thin,it deteriorates very quick,put them right on ice,makes skinning the filets a snap..
 
I target them occasionally in the surf in later summer. Its usually one of those beach days with the wife and I can't leave my pole home so I set it out and relax. I just use a simple high/low rig tip with pieces of bloodworm. They are very good eating my old man can't get enough of them.
