To expand on what pequa1 says, while I absolutely sympathize with the for hire industry, I can not support anything that is not even and equal for everybody. The cost of running my own boat from maintenance, to equipment/bait/tackle, fuel, etc etc etc is WAAAYYYY more than the casual person who jumps on a PB from time to time. That person should NOT get any special perks or benefits that I can't get. Please do not interpret this in anyway as being against the for hire industry because its not my intention. IF the license is brought back, it should apply to EVERYBODY, period.

First off, thanks for the clarification John. It is true the "for hire" boats do not pay an extra fee to cover their passengers. I don't think that anyone wants to discourage the occasional angler from going out because of an additional fee. If it is reasonable and easy to obtain that should not adversely affect the level of patronage. Of course most of us are opposed to any additional paperwork if it came down to Captains having to sell a "day license". However, I feel that would still be preferable to having to force the tourist type angler to find an outlet like a Bait Shop or Sporting Goods store on their own for a spur of the moment trip.

I am also sensitive to Chinacat's feeling that Licensing fees should apply to all who use the resource. If we eventually get to the reinstatement of license fees and a reduced cost "day license" is offered, assuming the fees are reasonable, it should be "self policing". Those that fish often will find it much more economical to buy an annual or possibly lifetime permit as opposed to buying a single day use ticket every time they want to fish.

NY's freshwater licensing does have several options, one of which is buying a license for a limited timeframe (1-day or 7-days), annual, or lifetime. Assuming there are charters or party boats on the Great Lakes, do they have different requirements for licenses than do private boaters or fishing from shore ?
And in typical Noo Yawk fashion, my hunting license has different expiration dates than my marine registry. Wouldn't it be nice if they would all start with the calendar year or the fiscal year ? ... I've got this bridge...

Well, a few years back I was one of the dumb asses that bought a lifetime license gambling on the fact that I still have many years of fishing ahead of me and getting the reduced rate seniors license was a ways off in the future so it was most cost effective to go that route.
I was actually not happy when they changed the plan and sent me back my $$$ because I knew this day will eventually come back around again and it will prolly be a whole lot more $$ next time around....

I voted support it (reluctantly) IF guaranteed to support saltwater fishing
I was another dumbass that bought the lifetime and got my money back. My friends who went "annual" lost their money. Sometimes it pays to be a dumbass.

Mike, Chinacat and Pequa1,I have been off my meds. i hereby agree if there is a saltwater license fee, than everyone pays. no exemptions. But as my meds kicked in , I recalled something about the repeal history and I did some digging. there is also an RFA press release that I cannot cut and paste. i am cyber challenged. It's a lot to read:

No. Princess Andie is hoping SCOTUS doesn't take up any of his anti-2A impositions as it is. It will be interesting though as I fully expect the same towns to bring up the covenants again. The princess needs to replace the taxes paid by the fleeing upper middle class, manufacturers for other than yogurt going to "free" states, and the loss of employee taxes from the Amazon debacle, but may have to seek another sacrificial lamb.

Yup, you can thank the "nimby" mentality of the south fork for that, and possibly in the future.
Nothing to do with NIMBYism at all, as residents of one of the five East End we have the right to fish our waters , no permission form the state required. Why would you want to give the damn DEC any more power than they already have?

I worded it wrong. If not for the east end we would’ve been paying for those blue signs and mario’s bridge all along. Although i did get the lifetime
