Sailed from Wantagh Park , stopped a little West of the 3rd Wantagh because I saw birds diving and saw a gazillion small baitfish in the water. Sandeels ?? Saw the birds and thought Fluke feeding on them. No bites. Continued down and tried off the Jones Beach Piers , nothing. Saw birds all over diving . It was the end of incoming tide, The SW wind extended the incoming a little. No action off the Pier area and didn't see anybody else catching fish. So I went to the Inlet for the start of outgoing and caught back to back keepers that I released. I'm 100 percent catch and release. Caught them in Jones Inlet at the very start of outgoing. Inlet was full of weeds . Caught 2 short Fluke . I looked down the channel past the Loop Bridge and saw a Party Boat and a small fleet of Boats on the North side of the Loop Bridge. I saw that fleet about 10 days ago driving over the Loop Bridge. I hate sailing all the way from Wantagh Park, wish I could launch at the Town ramp in Point Lookout. 21 foot Boat limit ???? Maybe I'll launch there next time and see what happens, my Boat isn't a deep V and doesn't have to be lowered deep into the water to launch.
Called it a day after 4 Fluke. Just happy I finally caught something this year other than the 2 sea robins I caught out in Peconic. Been busy traveling out West and then went up to my Land in Chenango County for 4 days.
Got back to the ramp at Wantagh Park and was flushing my outboard/cleaning my Boat and the DEC Police Showed up and came over to talk to me. Very nice guy , really considerate. I went to my truck to get my wallet to show him my fishing license and I forgot my Boat Registration, Trailer Registration, My Saltwater Fishing and Boater Safety Cards home. I took all those documents out of my wallet because I went on a vacation last week and didn't want a criminal to steal all that irritating stuff to replace. I stood there embarrassed and thought he'd throw the book at me. He said he could check on the phone and I gave him my drivers license. Checked it all out and said you're good to go. What a nice guy !!!!!!!!!!!
Baitfish all over the bay. Used Green Bucktails and squid and spearing . Combs bait and tackle said to use Green for Fluke. I had a bunch of Green Fluke rigs I bought at Walmart for $1.00 Clearance . 2 Keepers were caught on the Flor. Green Teaser Bucktail that I had about a foot above the sinker.
I noticed this about Freeport Party Boats, I don't think I ever saw a Party Boat Fishing on the East Side Of the Meadowbrook Bridge. Even a couple of years ago when the Fluke Fishing was Red Hot on the South East side of the Bridge , all the times I went there to fish I never saw a Party Boat on the that side of the Bridge. They fish the West side of the Bridge quite frequently. Strange ???
