One for the "Table"

Following a full week of nasty, rainy weather with a ton of east wind, I had to take advantage of the one brief window mother nature offered me this morning. Still too rough to fish the open Sound, but all the factors were lined up to make for what looked like a productive Striper bite.

This morning was pretty much all that a Bass could love, east wind, a flood tide, full moon, and the strongest part of the tide coinciding with sunrise. So, I got my butt out of bed super early to make sure my bucktail was heading towards the bottom at Plum Gut right at sunrise. First drift and a feisty 24” Bass makes a good account of himself. Next drift a Bluefish, followed by another short Bass. A couple of more Blues then on the 5th pass I nailed a healthy 30” fish destined to be dinner for the wife and myself. A few more Blues and then one last 29” Bass that was released for next year. That finished my quick 2 hour shot at bending the rod and catching something fresh for the table. Striped Bass are my wife’s favorite fish to eat so I would say today was “mission accomplished” trip for me. A lot better than sitting home watching the trees sway!

I have a couple of Sea Bass charters lined up for the next 10 days then it will be “All Tog, All the Time”! Can’t wait.
