Allagash White named to American Craft Beer Hall of Fame​

Allagash White, the flagship beer from Portland’s Allagash Brewing Company, was recently named to the American Craft Beer Hall of Fame.

The Belgian-style witbier was among five “Landmark Craft Beers” in the hall’s second annual induction ceremony in August.

Other inductees this year were Goose Island Beer Company’s Bourbon County Stout, Russian River Brewing Company’s Pliny the Elder, Wicked Ale from Pete’s Brewing Company and Smoked Porter from Alaskan Brewing Company.

The American Craft Beer Hall of Fame called Allagash White a “landmark American interpretation of Belgian-style witbier that introduced generations of drinkers to an entirely different tradition of brewing and drinking. Its accessibility, consistency, and distinctive character helped expand the American craft beer palate beyond the hop-forward and malt-driven styles that dominated much of the early movement.”

Allagash White has notched nine medals over the years in the World Beer Cup and the European Beer Star Awards. Most recently, the brew won a gold medal at the 2026 World Beer Cup in April, besting 67 competitors in its category.

Allagash White joins classic brews inducted into the Hall of Fame in its inaugural ceremony last year, including Anchor Liberty Ale, Anchor Steam Beer, Celis White, Samuel Adams Boston Lager and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

We do have rabid animals and it's not terribly unusual for a few folks to go through the shots, but here's a real doozy in North Carolina that popped up this week...

Multiple baby goats at a mobile petting zoo in North Carolina were infected with rabies, and authorities are asking anyone who had contact with the animals to reach out to health officials about potential exposure to the rare but deadly virus.

Residents in western North Carolina may have been exposed to the infected goats from Farm Adventures at the mobile petting zoo's location in Harmony or at off-site events between July 28 and Aug. 27, local officials said in a statement. The state has not reported human cases of the virus since 2011.


Exposure may have happened at 10 locations, including an assisted living facility and a back-to-school bash, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services said. Those affected are urged to contact their local health department to determine whether they need medication to prevent infection.

The goats were most likely exposed to rabies by a skunk that had entered their pen in late July, according to the state health department, which was first notified of the rabies exposure on Thursday.

Lab testing found the virus in three of the baby goats, and a fourth is also assumed to have been infected, state officials said.

Farm Adventures is based in Iredell County and books events in surrounding communities, and officials say the owner has been cooperating with the investigation.

"There is not a broad risk to the public — only those who attended events at the mobile petting zoo and were in close contact with the goats are at risk," officials said.

"Residents should not wait for symptoms before calling," Mecklenburg County Health Director Kimberly Scott said.
