Jumped on my go to party boat in MTK for fluke on Sunday. Had my hopes up as they seemed to hit them pretty good on Wednesday. got up at 3, hit the road at about 3:20. A bit earlier than I normally leave. Turned out to be a good thing. As I turned the corner near my house I hear thump thump.... flat tire. Put air in it and headed off but the dang low tire light remained on. Should I stay home or continue on? I continue on. Not even out of my home town and some idiot blows a stop sing nearly T-Boning me. SMH.. Another sign I think to myself to turn around. I press on and make it to MTK at about 5:30. I head to the boat with most of my gear, talk to my fellow fishing club members and head back to the car for the remainder of my gear. I was taking my time, losing track of time and hear the captain start up the diesels. I was parked way in the back of the lot and now worried I would see the boat heading out of MTK Lake. Jump on the boat and off we go. Stressful way to start the day. We started with the tail end of the outgoing and the bottom of the tide. Fishing started real slow. But, I had my hopes up that with the turn of the tide the bite would turn on. It never really did. I nailed a nice fish at about 9:30 that was a fat 24" fish. Didn't want to get my hopes up with the pool but as the day went on not many fish were being caught and nothing really that big. I was also in the $50 side pool. We had a seal pop up around the boat that appeared to have a white plug with a pink tip stuck in his back. Guessing with all his blubber he probably doesnt even feel it. Day progresses and the bite continues to be slow, Saturday was worse I was told. Bonito popping up everywhere but not interested in what the few that tried offered them. With about an hour or so left in the day, the club president lands a fish about an inch or 2 bigger than mine and close to the whistle another club member lands a nice 27" fish. I resigned myself to the fact that I lost the pool. Only 2 of the 3 big fish were in the pool and when it came time to weigh them there was some confusion as to whose fish was whose. None of us marked our fish but I knew mine was 24". To my suprise it was heavier than the longer one. Did not think I had a chance at beating the 27" fish but lo and behold it did. Won both pools and I walked away with a nice chunk of cash even after giving a large portion of it to the mate. Nice way to end the fluke season for me after what turned out to be a so so year for me. Hit them good in the LIS the beginning of the year but did not get as many as I expected out in MTK. With some luck I may make it out there again this year but starting to look forward to tog. Sorry for the long read..... No pics, still waiting on them from the boat.
