Personal best Offshore

Forgot to mention sharks:
Mako lots of fish biggest was pushing 600 pounds
Its of blue dogs
Several relatively small (like 120 lbs) tigers
Several hammerheads
Lots of browns
Two sand tigers
several small threshers
Innumerable dogfish, (both smooth and spiny)

This is about personal best not everything ya caught

They are my personal best of each species! I would have to type for days to list everything I ever caught, even assuming I could remember any of them.

Just a hint is its personal best you should list one weight for each one not several of this several of this blah blah and yeah peeps tend to believe pics just saying

eyeglassjoe, are you sure it was 1994, and not 1995?

I ask because in the Fishermen cover shot below, that Thresher weighed in at 600 on the nose. F/V Kristen. I was supposed to go on that trip but had to cancel at the last minute. My brother is in the photo with Captain Larry. Anyway, the date is easy to remember, October 3, 1995....... the day OJ was acquitted. I recall looking up the state record at the time and if i remember correctly it would have broken the record. About a week later, 2 larger Thresher's were captured, one I think was in NJ, the other I can't remember.

when sharks come to dock, what then,? meat for sale.?? I know Mako meat is ok, Thresher, Hammerhead etc... i have a hard time taking the dogfish i get near shore, that PP smell is strong even after gutting and head off... saw on TV, LIME citrus bath helps reduce smell and improves the prepping for frying... cellfish...

Thresher is EXCELLENT, right up there w/Mako and Porbeagle. Never heard anything good about a hammerhead though...

Pics from the Pacific (Can't believe it's been 9 years) since that's what I have at the computer.

PB YFT - 190lbs

This was our biggest for the trip that went 302

PB Pacific Thresher from 18' CC - Went 362 (Had a 495 in the Atlantic but don't have any digital pics here)
352 Thresher.webp

Big Makos - Didn't kill any of these (no need for 700#'s of Mako steaks and they eat sealions) but I estimated them in the 800# or so class. to give a point of reference my cable is 7' long. We did our best to measure them. The top one was around 11' the bottom was 10'6" but was just fat. Tough to get good photos while you are leadering them lol. All of these were caught within 8 miles of the beach, one was 2.5 miles. You guys can't believe how many giant ones there are in Southern California and NO ONE and I mean NO ONE fishes for them.

PB Pacific BFT 191#'s (Have caught bigger in the Atlantic)

So much fun here being able to do all this on a skiff vs. having to own a big Sportfisher or Downeaster. Best part of living here.
