When I started fishing with serious fishermen, I learned how to snell hooks and tie knots.

Snelled hook leaders can be shortened to whatever lengths you desire so mine start at 12" and get adjusted depending on the area I'm fishing and conditions. If I'm in a rush, I secure hooks using half hitches. If time permits, grand banks knot.

None of this applies to blackfish as I tie different rigs with different knots.....(Watch Geoff on OE tie rigs and you'll know what I mean)

Dropper loops work but if you want to be a better fisherman, learn to snell hooks and tie rigs.

Pack of 50 hooks $7
30 yards of 40lb leader another $8
Pack of 50 barrel swivels $5
I’m a DIY kinda guy
Catching fish on my own rigs I tied in the garage….. Priceless??
gee Chinaman, ya sincerity is remarkable for homemade Porgy Hooks, priceless indeed…?
the times i head out for scup isn’t worth the effort for tying my own..
but all my 5/0 - 9/0 are home tied with wire or 100# mono leader…
was wondering , are ya lead weights homemade too… cellie…

I totally get it and appreciate the input!(y)
However I'm specifically talking porgy rigs here :D
I can't recall a day that we didn't come home with as many porgies as we cared to take because of rig/hook failure...

The porgys have been thick in recent years. Good news for the party boats and charters that do them. I believe it's because the commercial pressure on them is way down. They don't pay enough to cover your overhead.

Anyway in Montauk down the south side in like 10 ft of water among the boulders....GIANT PORGYS......Obviously ya gotta be careful.

Guy I know bought his house in Montauk porgy fishing. Quit tin knocking in the 60s and never looked back. John Rade was the best for quantity but not quality. He got his quota either way. Amazing guy

nonetheless, MOJOE is the Porgy King, especially while fishing from the hazardous waters of the Jamaica Bay Triangle… cellfish…
