Port Jeff Area What a difference a week makes. The fat lady may be backstage!!!

Fished Port Jeff area today from about 7 AM to Noon. Last week, could not get the anchor line to come tight on the set. This week, hard to get an anchor to hold with the strong incoming moon tide and the strong SE wind. 200 ft of anchor line to get the anchor to hold in 40 ft of water. That is with an oversize anchor and 20 ft of chain.

Some small black fish again today. Range was 10 inches to 15 7/8 ths. No porgies or sea bass. Boat was swinging a lot Finally gave up and headed to B11

Jigged some small blues at B11. Fish were hitting the jigs on the way down. Blues were 3 to 5 lbs no bass mixed in. Drift was very fast with the wind and tide together.

Conditions got sloppy and headed home. Tide was over the floats at the ramp.

Maybe one more try if the weather holds.

Then the fat lady will sing

I think there is a lot more time left, we are behind by a few weeks, water temps are still 58 degrees.
I didn't get out this weekend, I had to work on my motor, but next weekend I will be out, I will be off the week of Thanks Giving, so I plan to do as much fishing during that week as I can, usually by this time of year my boat is put away, the end of Nov if it turns I will put it away, hopping it stays in the 40's and 50's.

fished in new haven this morning ...it was definitely sporty conditions! small blackfish at the peak of the tide and then the current started ripping too hard and got soaked on the ride home

Black fishing seemed to all on the tide changes for me this year. It would start about 45 minutes before dead high or low. It would last about 45 min past the change. One the tide started rolling it would shut down or be a very slow pick.

Good to see all the small fish but a few keepers would be a nice change. This has been an odd fishing year to say the least.

Fluke were non existent! Only one keeper in early spring. Then is just stopped. Porgies were hit and miss.

Blues did not show until late in the season.

poorrichard...have had the exact same bite on blackfish as you described this year. Best chance at the bigger fish seams to be right before and after the change in tides. I fish in a kayak(quick sessions in the week) and boat on the weekends. Actually caught all my best fish this year from the yak!
