First Trip of the year from Port Jefferson this morning. Left the ramp about 7AM with the west wind blowing hard. Can the weatherman ever get it right?
Broke the inlet to 3 to 5 footers, picked my way to about half way to B11. Drifts were average to fast. Even with wind against the tide
Picked about 5 or 6 small fluke. Nothing over 16-1/2 inches. Some sea robins in the mix but they weren't too bad.
Seas laid down about 9AM and got better as the tide ran out. High was about 10:30
Fishing did not get any better so I headed home about 11:15.
The USCG was around. They had a boat stopped down towards Old Field as I headed to the inlet.
Make sure you have all your safety gear and check the expiration date on your flares!!
Safety First!!!
