Great day's fishing (Friday) for Frankie and me outside JI, catching a full boat limit with fish to 6lbs on a VERY rough ocean. The BIG bucktails got a solid workout today!

went today sunday..lite boat traffic for a sunday ?

had 9 NY keepers to 4.5 lbs and six seabass bunch of hake..\\

little to no drift most of the day ..again fish on small spots shorts drifts seem to produce

RIchie - it was a very slow drift - but productive when we stuck tight to our numbers/drift lines. Casting out with the spinning rig did help. Kenscot, Capt. Mike and I did a 3-man full boat limit to 4.5lbs by 11:30, putzed around for another hour and then got out of there. Early day full limits have been a bit of a toughie this season, so hitting the dock by 1:00 was a welcome change.

Thanks again Pete for a great trip! This was a great example of a captain who faced unfavorable odds and did what it took to adapt to the conditions. Too many days we look at undesirable winds, tide and other variables for reasons not to fish or catch fish. Using heavier bucktails to achieve proper presentation and drift sock to decrease drifting speed made all the difference between going home with our full limit, and potentially striking out (calling it a day at 9AM). At 41 years old, and running my own boat for 15 years now, I have learned that the best way to keep getting better at this craft is to be an avid observer and learn from those who have done this much longer than me! Also, Pete is a huge Met's fan like myself, and the combo of listening to Met's radio and hangin with my good friend made the experience that much more enjoyable. Thanks again Pete! Always a great time fishing with ya! ` Frank

Hi everyone!

As you all know, this season has been a grind. We have had many trips of bringing home few, and also no keepers. Having said that, you always want to pull a positive out of a negative. This year has required me to work harder to catch fluke than any other year. I have expanded my tackle options, worked my machines more closely to perfect drift lines to stay on the few fish there have been to be caught, and really explored some new areas and marking fluke hunting areas in each. This year has also been a lesson in patience, often times waiting for short windows for the fish to bite. Although many days have been frustrating, something keeps me motivated to wake up at 4:30AM to go fishing! We have had a few more solid trips recently off Atlantic Beach. Here are a few pics from our most recent trip, along with my best so far this year, an 8.6 caught in Jamaica bay earlier this summer.

Tale of two day with very different conditions ..went out tuesday with my much better half ..hit a spot I knew would have keeper fish ..picked two really quick for dinner...so with time to kill no crew I went to hit off spots..did find fish on almost every piece...flat calm day nice drift & she was able to take all the sun she wanted...Fluke scampi for dinner...

today Friday..well I knew it was not going to be as nice as tuesday but WTF...wind and seas made it not fishible in the deep for me..went inshore till 10 or so...wind layed down went back out to the deep ..both spots gave us 7 NY keepers and a ton of NJ keepers...

Yep, yesterday was pretty horrible on the deep drops, a totally blown forecast. We hung in there, put out the drift sock and rocked/rolled our way to 8 keepers to 5lbs and a ton of just-shorts. Got real nice on the grounds (relatively speaking) by lunchtime - just paid the price in the morning.

Here's BillyPro/(ReelCranky) and "Young Stephen" with today's hard-won catch. Solid crew work today, gentlemen!
