Re-pinned this thread to the top of my board. Just a matter of counting off the days now, like a jailbird does on his prison cell wall.
I've prepped all my fluke setups and made a few interesting new additions in the reel department, see the Daiwa Catalina and new/old stock Zillion HSE threads on this board. Just getting a little stir-crazy, that's all.
Have to order in a new full exhaust (manifolds/risers and some exhaust hose) for my boat's trusty Ford 351 H/O engine (think Mustang GT, circa 1973) - which R&R bull work will keep me busy for a couple of weekends, at least. Hey, I'm not such a young guy anymore, and job perfection is way more important to me than a speedy chop-chop job that can come back to haunt me, once the fishin' gets cruisin'.
My baby's getting a new trans oil cooler and engine starter too. Some minor ignition work, carb cleaning and a rebuild of the engine's RW pump - and then the usual Spring clean up, light buffing and full Collinite wax job craziness. My target for the hitting the water is the 2nd weekend in May. That's the plan, anyways - let's see how it goes.
The popular thinking among the "in the know" crowd at the Ward Melville show this weekend seemed to be that it may well be an early start to the fluke season, what with the exceptionally mild Winter temps we've seen. Man, that would be GREAT!
Scuttlebutt is that the draggers are now finding the fish "fairly inshore," vs what would be considered the "normal" deeper depths near the Shelf for this time of year, so that sounds quite hopeful. Hey, we haven't had a really good Spring run on the shallower ocean sand (like 40-55') for a few seasons now - and that can be very good fishing indeed, if the fish show in any kind of numbers.
Anyway, feel free to post up your thoughts, and lots of fishing pix as well, once we get going this new season. Also, fish dinner-prep pix are very desirable, so don't be shy with those either!
Best of luck to all, and may we all be blessed to catch a real sea monster or two this 2020 fluke season!
