My plan this year is to do some early deep water trips & if the fluke dont show up Ill just keep going...30 to 60 mile drops with the big boat & do some bay inshore with the sea hunt..

Big Boat pretty much ready to go just oil & filters bottom paint & should be in the water mid april...Sea hunt was never bottom painted so I have to prep & pant her install a set of trim tabs & its ready to go...I'm thinking early may...

The Boat’s still on the hard in my side yard, so I had to do some fishin’ at Best Market in Merrick. Nice, fresh White Hake and flounda’ oreganata-style, with some of my fav sides. Wifey does a mean cole slaw!

Ahhhh
Awesome fish market with kitchen and take out counter. In normal times they have an outdoor deck and picnic tables to hang out.
The owner Frank is a great guy that has been in the fish market business for a long time. His son is a kick ass bass player that jams with son.
For me, going that far west is a haul but well worth it
First pick is halibut second is salmon
I usually buy what we don’t catch locally

NJ Fluke season opened today. It's fun getting them in skinny water. Just have cast carefully among the kayak flotilla

On another note, I heard a ruckus out by my boat early this morning, looked outside and saw this:

I could say they came to exchange one pile of junk for another. Instead, I'll just say that I thought my hauler was a week early.

Hello everyone,

I hope you all are healthy and doing well! Been a while, but the Theresa V splashed on Sunday, a month late this year for obvious reasons. My good friend Eddie (Savvy18)helped with getting her ready for battle after I brought her around, thanks bud! I must say, it is good to be in the water!

Monday's forecast looked good, so after a ride with the wife, I swung back and picked up Eddie for a quick afternoon / evening fluke / bass combo in Jamaica Bay. We hit the local fluke grounds at about 530PM on a beautiful evening, with a nice bay drift. After a few drifts we were able to hone in on a nice little pod of fluke in 40-42 feet of water. Drift was Southwest to Northeast across North Channel. Eddie had the hot hand, and chartreuse gulp 5" mullets were the ticket. In about an hour of fishing we caught 6-7 fish, 2 being keepers to 21 inches. Not a slaughter by any means, but a good sign to see life right away. Water was 60-61 degrees and Fluke were a bit lethargic, some even had mud on their bellies when they came up. Should hopefully get better as water temps increase a bit.

Bass fishing, not too much too tell. Sitting nice on anchor but weed, irregular currents, and fog rolling in cut the night short.

I splash tomorrow morning. FINALLY. The relatively mild Winter, combined with Commandant Cuomo's enforced extra "blocked-up time" this early season, allowed for my remedying MANY little annoyances, in addition to some heavier bull work and the normal joyful Spring-prep exercises. All done, thank the Lord! I have to believe she's now in better shape than a 33-yr old rig has a right to be.
