You must put some mono backing on the reel 1st......say 20 yards of 20lb mono then attach the braid and fill the spool with tension on the line.The cast control has no effect on the reel's action if you are simply dropping the rig to the bottom. It's to adjust the reel for casting lures.The tension knob near the star-drag should be tight but not locked down. I loosen mine then try to slide the spool side to side. If you get some play tighten it until you get no play. No more.Be sure your Flipping Switch in in the proper position. I keep mine well lubed with reel oil.Hope this helps.</blockquote>
