Reliving my childhood

In 1970 I purchased a 14-foot Arkansas Traveler, motor (40 HP Johnson) and trailer for $300. I lived in Roslyn and fished with friends.

We launched at a ramp near Bar Beach. Also, I used to rent boats from (I think) Georges. A small rental place just before you went up that steep hill.

Anyway, I was talking to this friend at lunch yesterday. We like to take a trip down memory lane. I have my 17 foot Proline on a trailer. Is there any place to launch for a reasonable price? I live in Sound Beach, and I am not a resident of that area.

Thanks!

Sound Beach, my old home town. Your rig is small enough in that you don't need "luxurious" ramps to launch, which is to your advantage. Well here's my almost 40 year old "knowledge", or lack thereof...

The Mt Sinai and PJ are the closest places, but unsure if they even have daily charges, and what they would be. Hopefully your friend is a resident and you two can work out some way to "align" things...

You have state ramps in Mattituck and Heckscher State Park, along with a Brookhaven Ramp or two on the South Side There used to be a few "end of the street" free ramps in Moriches near the Forge River. Somehow I'm guessing they're all gone too...

I do fish the Mount Sinai area. That is where I launch my boat. I get a season sticker.

I am asking about Bar Beach as a special trip with my friend.

DUH, my bad...

Farthest west I ever fished was with a Smithtown friend who would launch out of Northport...

AAMOF the only times I was ever in Pt. Washington was during the completion of Round Long Island sailboat races, which ended at the Yacht Club...

Pretty Funny: I grew up fishing the Bar Beach area as well, and now fish mostly out of Port Jeff and Mt Sinai-small world sometimes. The boat rental place in Roslyn was called Bills. Bill had a yard man-helper who had a wonderful personality- we nick named him Frankenstein if that is any clue.

I can help you with local knowledge. Sound Beach is the Town of Brookhaven. You can buy the season pass. Seems you are in my senior citizen age bracket, so the cost is reduced to $60. This allows use of Port Jeff, Mt. Sinai, Stony Brook and many Town ramps on the south shore as well. You will be ticketed if you do not have a ramp pass or use the machine to buy a one day pass.

As Roccus 7-Dominick mentioned, there are NY State ramps-free of charge for NY State residents located in Mattituck, Southold-new-opened last July 4th, Hecksher State Park and Captree State Park.

That was George. He was actually funny if you kidded around with him.

Thanks! Like I mentioned, the areas local ramps I have a handle on. I think it is way too far to take the boat to Bar Beach from Mount Sinai. But I could trailer it if I had a dock to use at Bar Beach. I'll look at the link of Nassau county docks.
