Thanks for the updates! I'm thinking they already know they have no chance of reaching the target anyhow. I'm guessing the extension will come in 27.

So it's full steam ahead for 2025!

If you read that motion the only things missing are Curing Cancer and Solving World Hunger. The we'll fix everything approach is unrealistic, but does offer infinite can kicking...

I expected a can kicking result, but not as vehement and almost a unanimous statement as this...

Yes, the cynicism is strong with this one...

Yup, can kicked down the street!!

Even though more restrictive regulations have been delayed once again, there is no reason why each individual who loves Striped Bass cannot do their part to conserve.

I still stand by my suggestion that for those who have alternate species to target to change tactics immediately upon reaching the boat limit. For those without that alternative perhaps barbless hooks, no trebles at all, or if you must use bait circles only as mandated by law.

What has to stop, IMHO, is the senseless C&R of 20, 30 or more large fish per trip during the fall run well beyond the boat limit. I see no need for any true sportsman to put that much stress on the Striped Bass population.

Who knows, if more of us set a positive example, especially in the for-hire industry where many recreationals take their lead from, then things just might change for the better.

Perhaps the agency didn't want to ruffle the feathers of the incoming administration?

Could be.

They also need to be damn sure the science is accurate and undeniable before enacting regs that will cause economic hardship to many businesses along the coast.

Very well said Cap'n. More of us need to think that way...

A good friend and former colleague of mine who is now one of New England's premier striper fly fishing guides has become a pariah to his fellow Southern Maine Guides. These operations ponded larger fish live-lining pogies, AKA bunker, and took to the internet boasting about FORTY, 40+" Fish A Tide!! Make your reservations now!! this past season. My friend suggested they may want to turn down those boasts and switch to artificials once a few larger fish were caught.

I'll cut back on my retention by 50% which means instead of keeping 2 in 10 legal fish, I'll halve that number to 1 in 10.

as long as you continue to exercise the care that you do in releasing non-keepers... its the jerks that throw them off the bow of a 50' party boat, the idiots that drag obvious micros all the way up the beach, and the fools that take a photo of nearly every fish they catch. WE KNOW WHAT FISH LOOK LIKE !

My gripe is the slap on the wrist that real poachers get, not some guy with one at 27 3/4 "

My Bass fishing is concentrated in the spring in Jbay. I don't keep any bass and most every fish I catch never leaves the water. I understand how precious our resource is and don't want to repeat the waste of our predecessors. I hope that mine and the attitude of others here spreads.

I really don't target stripers in the spring. All of my striper fishing is the fall run. Like I said in a previous post in this thread once a party boat gets a full boat limit of bass call it a day. It normally takes an hour or more to get back to the dock then an hour to clean the fish depending on the number of fares.
