Rod for penn battle 3 4000

I picked up a battle 3 4000 size reel last week, probably would have got the dx but I'm upstate and lucky for the shop to even have a Penn plus it was $99 otd. I put a 6'6" Fenwick eagle med heavy on the reel though it would be good for bucktails for fluke but noticed with the 12# mono it didn't cast well, you can feel the line bunching up on the first eye of the rod guessing the spool a bit to big for the guides.( can't remember what that's called). The rod handles shorter then I like as well. I plane to run 15# powerpro or jbraid on it soon.

so I'm looking for a more appropriate rod, like to keep it under $100 I like 7' rods but a little longer or shorter will be fine. This will be for shore, pier, jetty, docks, beach, probably never on a boat. So any ideas would be appreciated, I prefer to handle a rod first but very few inshore rods here upstate. Any questions just ask.
thanks.troy

In the +/- $100 range, take a look at the Tsunami Slow Pitch series. Very nice rods for the money.
How are they casting, I've never had my hands on a slow pitch rod, I do like how thin they are and the bend. Think I remember reading some guys like them for pitching chunk baits but that far from cocktails or other lighter lures.

I'll have to read more on them, though I've seen where guys were complaining about them. Maybe they changed the rod or it was just the penn haters.
IDK I did like the action ..right for jigging fluke & BSB... Most other factory rods in that price point are either way to hard or soft..

I could spend the few more bucks for the new battalion ii rods, what one you think would go good with my battle 4000. I'd like a fast tip to give the bucktails some action but still be nice for other shore fishing.

TWF - if you are never going to fish off of a boat, go with a 7'6" rod if possible - for added casting distance and the ability to keep a nice fish out of jetty rocks and dock pilings.

Sorry if I missed it, but why not change the mono out to braid? Agree with Lep - I have a couple of those Tsunami Slow Pitch Spinners and they’re nice, affordable rods that can handle boat and surf duty (probably boat better)….

this will be for casting mostly, I don't know how slow pitch rods would be nothing local to get a feel for. I put the #12 mono on just to try out since there were no bigger spools of braid local, the real is rated or up to 12# mono and think 30# braid. It works good with the mono until casting. It will get some 15-20 pound braid soon.

most fishing will be from piers and gettys maybe some beach. I only get down to fish saltwater a few times a year I normally use conventional reels. This is my first dedicated salt setup, normally I would just use my bass rods ( large mouth, small mouth) I figured this would be better for lighter stuff then my baitcasters.
