**September 24, 2025 - City Island Update**

Hey Sound fishermen, Sal here with what's happening at City Island. Been fishing these waters for 47 years now, and I'm telling you - there's something special building out there.

## What I'm Seeing Right Now

Got out to the protected waters around the marinas this morning at first light, and the water's got that look. You know what I mean - that slightly green tint that says the bait's moving and the fish are paying attention. Water temp's sitting right around 68 degrees, which is perfect for this time of year.

The thing that's got me excited is the bait. Spearing are thick along the shoreline, and I'm seeing good schools of adult bunker moving through. When you see that combination, you know the stripers aren't far behind.

## The Action This Week

Had a great morning at the protected waters around the marinas on early morning before the boat traffic. schoolie bass and keeper fluke were really cooperating. Ended up with three keeper bass between 28 and 32 inches using light tackle with killies and sandworms.

The guy fishing next to me - older fellow, been coming here longer than I have - he was using the same technique and doing even better. That's when you know you're on the right track.

## What's Working

Let me save you some trial and error. Here's what's actually catching fish right now:

**For Stripers:** light tackle with killies and sandworms is the ticket. Don't overthink it. Get your bait where the fish are and let them find it.

**For Fluke:** Bucktails with Gulp trailers in white or pink. The key is the drift - let the tide do the work.

**For Blues:** When they're around, anything works. But wire leaders are a must unless you like retying all day.

## Local Intelligence

## The Real Story

This is what I love about fishing the Sound. Every day's different, but if you pay attention to the signs - the bait, the water, the way the fish are acting - you can figure it out.

City Island has been good to me for decades. It's not always easy, but when it's on, it's really on. And right now, all the signs are pointing to some good fishing ahead.

## Looking Forward

Water's cooling down, bait's moving, and the fish are getting that fall attitude. The next few weeks could be really special. Don't wait for the perfect forecast - get out there and see what's happening.

The Sound's been here a lot longer than any of us, and it'll keep producing fish long after we're gone. But right now, today, there's good fishing to be had if you know where to look.

Tight lines,
Salty Sal
