SD and Micro SD Cards - Did you get the memo regarding reviving "Dead Cards"???

So I get in my truck this morning and got a "Can't Read SD Card" from my GPS. I removed the card and put it back in and it worked, but got the error again after 5 minutes. Well that means SD card rescue 101, a trick that I learned years ago for an old Garmin GPS, but have used on multiple electronics that utilize SD or Micro SD cards, a PENCIL ERASER!! All you have to do is "erase" the gold contacts on the card going in the direction of the contacts, not transversely across the contacts, see below.

Needless to say my truck GPS is humming along nicely. Wonder how many folks have spent big bucks over the years for something so easy!!

Only us “senior citizens“ remember the old pencil eraser trick.
The current generation just throws the card in the trash and buys a new one!

Thanks for the compliment, but IF it wasn't the card and actually the built in GPS, I would certainly not even think about paying for any repair. I still have a couple of fully-functional dashboard Garmin GPS with lifetime map updates sitting in my computer closet that I would have immediately put to use...

works on Christmas tree lights too. My commo sergeant taught me the trick in the 70s.

Ironically, I too have an old, but still functional Garmin GPS from my last vehicle. Tried to sell it at our garage sale this past September and I'm sure you can guess the results. It's collecting dust in the basement now!

Probably because nobody owns pencils anymore and memory is much cheaper than it used to be. But it is a great trick!
