Seafood restaurants

Any really good seafood restaurants on Long Island?

I live in Rocky Point and have been to a few. Most are good, some less so. Just wondering if you have a "must go" seafood restaurant.

Been a long time, but if my memory is correct, you have a decent one on the south side 25A, just east of the main drag. Can't remember the name...

What about Bone Fish Grill in Rockvlle Center. Never eaten there but have a number of times outside of Richmond VA. Thought that they were good.

My Fav seafood restaurant has always been the ones on the water that sell it/cook it...... White cap East Islip/.......Montauk HWY right before the shinny canal South side

Not that they're bad, I've eaten in both Legal Seafood and Bonefish Grill and enjoyed them, BUT one has to question national chains in locations that have fresh seafood available. They use standardized menus and probably rely more on national fish suppliers than local ones.

The wahoo I ate in Ohio, is probably from the same supplier that the wahoo on the menu in Rockville Center, as last time I looked, there is no commercial wahoo fishery anywhere near LI.

Call me a purist, but I expect a "local" seafood restaurant near the coast to focus its menu to what they can source within 10s of miles of their location. This reminds me of another one of my LI favorites, The Rhumb Line in Greenport, which is regrettably permanently closed. After years of hearing how great "Dolphin Fish was to eat, I had my first taste there.

They had a chalkboard menu, which is a great sign to diners that a restaurant specializes in only fresh, local seafood. That day the menu said, "Today's Special - Dolphin It's the fish NOT Flipper!!" Obviously this was a long time ago, before someone had the idea to use the Polynesian name of Mahi, LOL.

I lean towards outdoor casual spots if getting seafood out. I also leans towards shellfish and its just too messy to eat in stuffy fancy indoors restaurant in my opinion. Billy's By The Bay in Greenport has become one of our favorite spots the past few years. It's on the grounds of a marina so that in itself makes it cool as heck and the food is always great.
