Federally protected species too. Let's hope that they throw the book at him!!!

Seguine, 40, was convicted Wednesday in the Town of LaGrange Justice Court of illegal trafficking and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

The cost to legally acquire a sandbar shark is approximately $11,500.

OK, if I understand this, he probably gets $11,500/shark and was fined $5,000. Not sure if there is prison time.

What I can't figure out is who, besides a commercial aquarium, wants a pet "Sandbar Tiger Shark?" Things get quite large...

You forgot that people are stupid lol. It’s like the people that buy puppies and get rid of them when they become adult dogs.

Yeah, a misguided moment of giving people credit. What did strike me while reading the original post was the ability to buy baby alligators many, many moons ago, and then dealing with them as they grew up.

In my flimsy defense, I figured the $11,500 cost would prevent most "maroons" from buying a Baby Shark. Then again, people used to buy full-size Hummers to drive around suburbs, another classic example of "You can't fix stupid"...

Not involved with this "event", but some lady driving on I-95 recently caught this footage. Transporting live sharks is not for the fainthearted...

Sharks definitely NOT sand tigers, but other than that I can't get an actual ID.
