Same here, it was funny….. when something broke in our house my Mom would say ” where is your Father”
We would say he is down the block AT the ( whoevers) needed help.. LoL

THe man had a day job and then a second gig and then helped others for no charge of course.

That was how it was when I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s; everyone ‘pitched in’ as best that they could; I think that was called a Neighborhood.

We had a Fish Truck, Vegetable Truck, a horse drawn Junk Wagon and a Sharpener with a stone rigged to his back.( ringing his bell ) once a week. Oh, can’t leave out the Good Humor Man on his bicycle cart. Maybe the horse drawn junk cart not once a week.

The perfect storm was SS checks were delivered on the 3rd, Interest was posted quarterly on the 1st and If this was also a Friday - local Payroll Checks being cashed. The Banks were insane. You know you had to get that Interest posted to the book or it didn’t count.

More insanity was the ‘open a $25 account’ and get a free Toaster, Tupperware, Corell Bowl etc.
