but I did get to work several different lure types off my town's ocean beach with my new Okuma 11' Medium Rockaway. Last of incoming, 2-3' surf, some weed, some sweep. Happy with the rod and the Penn Battle II, which came in at under $200. for both. Might go once more before I start kayak fishing for fluke and weaks which we prefer eating anyway. I simply prefer warmer weather for kayaking and spend the spring sprucing up the yard.

Glad that the rod is working for you. I know you went back and forth on length and actions for a bit. I am experimenting with a rod I picked up, a 9'2" surf rod, moderate action, can still use a VS 150 on it. Worked out great last night.

I already had a 9' Lamiglass with a slightly lighter action, 5/8 to 2, but wanted something that I could hold straight up and the line wouldn't get caught in the waves. I think these guys were either impressed by my casting or chuckling at my futility in catching.
