Fished Fire Island Reef and Fisherman’s Reef off Kismit Sunday 5/22, between 8am and noon. Beginning of outgoing, 5-10 out of the south, average water clarity. Looking for bass or fluke, would even be happy with a bluefish. Threw top water early because I can’t resist throwing top water (wonder bread talkin popper and blue/white pencil popper), then white bucktail tandem rigs tipped with white gulp, then flutter spoons (copper, chrome, and blueback), then white bucktail tipped with white otter tails, then chartreuse and white fluke teaser rigs tipped with chartruese and white gulp. Fish finder was active and consistent but not stacked. NOT A BUMP !
Week before, May 14th, fished back bay areas from Nicols Bay to East Patchogue between 8am and noon, outgoing, winds 5-10 out of the north. Bucktails tipped with gulp and otter tails, jig heads with various shad types. Not a bump.
Two weeks before, drifted bunker chunks April 30th between 7am and noon at Fisherman’s Reef and Kismit Reef. Outgoing, winds 5-10 out of the south. Yielded 2 dog fish, nothing else. Fishfinder was very active and consistent.
Where are the bass, blue fish, and fluke in the Great South Bay ?
