Congratulations, George on that beautiful Largemouth. Really brings back memories from when my parents were alive and my family and I would visit them in FL every Feb. They lived in 3 different locations on the east coast from Ft. Lauderdale to Palm Beach, and finally Port St. Lucie. Each home they owned was always lakeside so Dad and I would also fish daily, specifically around sunrise and sunset for the best bite.

Dad was a big fan of light spinning rods and top water baits as well as the Carolina style rigged worms. He caught more than his fair share of 5-7# fish but I don't think he ever topped 8. I used to bring my fly rod and loved watching those Bass explode on the dry flies.

Around 2000 FL started stocking some of those lakes with Peacock Bass as well. As much fun as a big largemouth can be those Peacocks are really tough fish, easily as hard fighting as our Smallmouth up north.

2 quick questions. Do you have any Peacock Bass where you are located? Where exactly is the lake you are working? I might just have to "mug" you!!:D

First and foremost you're welcome here anytime. I have seen pics of a few peacocks that have been caught here. I also saw video of a 30-inch snook that was caught and released in here. The lakes are private yet run by the county. I'm already an advisor to the lake board. It's an old lime quarry that's over 300 acres named Stone Lake and there are two attached 100 acre lakes.

As I was typing this I took a break as I saw a bass busting bait in the yard and I ran out an caught him on a frog! It was only a pound but I can't get enough.

Anyhow, get down here soon as they are looking to bed and it's going to get better.

I don't know why but freshwater freaks me out LOL
Grew up in saltwater jumping off the boat going clamming, swimming in the ocean etc.
Jellyfish, horse shoe crabs, razor clams, sharks, bluefish, etc... no worries. bring 'em on LOL
Snakes, turtles, gators, leeches, and everything else in freshwater, No Thank You ??

When I started fishing it was in the farm pond catching panfish.
Lot's of Sunny's. Working my way to Crappy, Rock Bass, mudcats
or brown cats. Eventually Carp, LMB, Pickeral and Trout. As I got
older I was able to handle the heavier equipment and now I started
to venture elsewhere. at the end it's the same thing, Just glorified.

Funny thing is they have a "beach" here and on the sign it warns to watch out for gators. I've never once seen a person in the water

How about this one. It's my favorite. Oscars from the bank, with a cane pole.

Thanks for the invite, George. Wish I could join you but a few consulting jobs this month and next will keep me close to home. Then once April arrives it's tie to start prepping my own boat.

Having lived in south FL for a couple of years and fished there for many more, I can certainly understand Chinacat's concerns about gators. Had more than a few brushes with them myself over the years. When you are in a small tin boat it is particularly scary! Certainly no time to go for a swim!!!
