The Prodigal Son - Ry Cooder

Great Disc from a terrific session guy who's appeared on numerous recordings as a guest musician.
You've heard him - you just didn't know it.

In addition to his solo work he has played with John Lee Hooker, Captain Beefheart, Gordon Lightfoot, Ali Farka Touré, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Nick Lowe, Neil Young, Taj Mahal, Randy Newman, Linda Ronstadt, David Lindley, The Chieftains, Little Feet, The Doobie Brothers, and Carla Olson & the Textones (on record and film). He formed the band Little Village. He also produced the Buena Vista Social Club album (1997), which became a worldwide hit. Wim Wenders directed the documentary film of the same name (1999), which was nominated for an Academy Award in 2000.

Cooder was ranked eighth on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"[3] (David Fricke's Picks). A 2010 ranking by Gibson placed him at number 32.[4]

From his latest offering (Prodigal Son) released in 2018.

He kinda reminds me a little of Mojoe.............
:)

Last night on Amazon Prime Video I sat in the basement and watched Sinatra’s Main Event. October 13th 1974 at MSG. Had a few glasses of my brown liquor of the moment - Hudson Baby Bourbon.

Woodstock triple album
Richie Havens - Freedom
next - Country Joe and the Fish

I saw a musician documentary - forget which one - a lot of them credited "Pet Sounds" as a big influence in their careers.

I've seen most of that as well - McCartney recently just confirmed what was pretty much suspected. It spurred them (the Beatles) to create the Sargent Pepper album. He said it was their answer to Pet Sounds.
(y)

Which of course made the Stones answer Sargent Pepper with Their Satanic Majesty's Request. Which actually turned out to be a flop for the most part.
:)

remember when that was released.........

Quite the scandalous track. Friends & I listened to the album over & over down n the basement. We were at a friend's house listening one time & apparently his mom must have been listening & when it got to the "Mother. I want to rap..........." part - she burst into the room yelling "What in God's name are you listening to?" & ripped it off of the turntable & threw it into the wall shattering it.

Made quite the impression on us - we all ran out.

The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
"Father?" "Yes, son." "I want to kill you."
"Mother, I want to..."

LOL - good thing you kids weren't wearing Goth

hadn't been invented yet

:)

Always wondered why Mansion used Helter Skelter as a reason to go on a rampage when Morrison was recording stuff like this. Makes Helter Skelter look like a nursery rhyme..
