South Carolina takes control of inshore fishery

I wonder if we could do something like this.

Governor Henry McMaster recently signed Senate Bill 219 into law, allowing recreational anglers to fish all 55 species in the red snapper–grouper complex year-round within South Carolina’s state waters, which extend up to three nautical miles from the coast. 

This legislation establishes state-specific fishing seasons, catch limits, and size requirements for these species, previously regulated solely by federal authorities like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The law aims to provide a more tailored approach to fisheries management, addressing concerns that federal regulations may not accurately reflect local fish populations and fishing conditions

Woukd you trust the DEC to get the regulations correct?

Not me!!

The only potential advantage would be that if it's more local we might have a bigger voice than we do against a federal monolith.

However, neither the DEC nor NY has any kind of credible record in the way of representative government.

Agree and maybe we could get regulations that make sense
I am on Long Island Sound.
Having Conn with diff regulations than NY is crazy
Its the same body of water

Just like the south shore and NJ should have the same seasons and regulations

@poorrichard A lot would change if we weren't restricted by the continued failures of NMFS and other governmental agencies. In trust that our local leaders could do just fine without their interference.
