# South Shore Sam (Bay & Inlet) - October 10, 2025
Howdy, folks. South Shore Sam here, coming to you with the latest from our local bays and inlets. The ocean's been speaking to us, and there's a lot to unpack from the past week.
## Bay & Inlet Overview
The fall run is definitely in full effect across the South Shore. We're seeing some phenomenal weakfishing and trophy striped bass in the bays, with live bait proving to be the ticket. Blackfishing season is just around the corner, opening on the 15th, so get those crabs ready. The mullet run is also in full swing, which is a good sign for our striped bass.
## Western Zone (Fire Island Inlet to Democrat Point)
Captain Josh Rogers of Gypsea Charters in Brooklyn reports that both his boats have been on a phenomenal weakfishing and trophy striped bass bite. They've been utilizing live bait, and the results speak for themselves. As the water continues to cool, we can expect to see even more fish moving into the area. With blackfish opening on the 15th, they're geared up for some serious crab soaking [1].
## Central Zone (Democrat Point to Moriches Inlet)
Captain Doug Touback of Corazon Charters in Freeport notes that the yellowfin tuna bite has been exceptional while chunking around the draggers. They've been successful with light leaders and Daiwa setups. He's also keeping a close eye on the fall striper run, though the bass haven't fully filled in near them just yet, despite the abundance of bait [1].
## Ocean Beach (Surf fishing from Robert Moses to Southampton)
Nick Cancelliere (@nick_onthewater) reported massive piles of bay anchovies right off the South Fork beaches, though albies were elusive. Mackerel were boiling on rain bait, and fluke were hitting epoxy jigs. He anticipates Montauk albies will return once the water cools down a bit after the unseasonably warm weekend [1].
## Environmental Conditions & Outlook
The recent full moon has kicked the mullet run into high gear, which is a crucial bait source for striped bass and blues. Water temperatures are gradually dropping, which will continue to push more fish into our bays and inlets. The marine forecast for the upcoming weekend suggests some challenging conditions with strong winds, so it's a good time for gear prep. However, there might be a short window on Saturday morning for bluefish, tog, or striped bass in the inlets [2].
