# South Shore Sam's Fishing Report
**September 24, 2025 - Montauk Point Update**
Hey south shore crew, Sam here with what's really happening at Montauk Point. Been working these waters for over 40 years, and I'm getting that feeling again - you know the one I'm talking about.
## The Real Deal Right Now
Got out to where legends are made this morning and the water's telling a story. Temperature dropped to about 68 degrees after that blow we had, and it's like someone flipped a switch. The bait is everywhere - I mean EVERYWHERE.
Saw massive schools of bunker getting worked over by something big underneath. That's when you know it's going to be a good day.
## This Morning's Action
Hit where legends are made right at dawn patrol and structure fishing. The parking was already half full - word's getting out that the fishing's turning on.
trophy everything were really cooperating today. Used live eels, bunker, and whatever it takes and ended up with a nice mixed bag. The guy next to me was doing even better with live bait - sometimes the fish tell you what they want.
## What's Actually Working
Let me save you some time and money. Here's what's catching fish right now:
**For Fluke:** Bucktails with Gulp trailers. White, pink, chartreuse - doesn't seem to matter much. The key is the drift.
**For Stripers:** Live eels at night, bunker chunks during the day. And if you see birds working, throw everything you've got at it.
**For Sea Bass:** High-low rig with clams. Find the structure, drop down, and hang on.
## The Word from the Docks
## The Stories That Matter
Had a father and son team at Montauk Point last weekend. Kid couldn't have been more than 12 years old. Dad's trying to teach him how to cast, kid's getting frustrated, you know how it goes. Then the kid hooks into a nice keeper - maybe 20 inches - and the smile on that boy's face reminded me why I love this so much.
That's what it's about. Not the fancy gear or the perfect technique. It's about that moment when the rod bends and your heart skips a beat.
## Looking Ahead
The water's cooling down, the bait's moving, and the fish are getting aggressive. All the signs are pointing to a really good fall run. Maybe the best in years.
I've been through enough of these cycles to know when something special is building. The old-timers at the tackle shops are talking about it. The charter captains are getting excited. Even the weekend warriors are starting to catch fish.
## The Bottom Line
This is why I fish the south shore. This is why I get up at 4:30 AM and drive to the inlet in the dark. For moments like these when everything comes together and the fishing is just... right.
The fall run is starting, folks. I can feel it in my bones. The next few weeks are going to be special. Don't miss it.
Tight lines,
Sam
