I do believe there must be a sign before the camera saying something like "photo enforcement" for the red light cameras there are. They are diamomd shape white background with a traffic light. Not sure about the speed cameras but likely there is a sign.

I said it once to a friend I will say it again here. So its a money grab so what. If you and everyone did the speed limit and stopped at red lights like they are supposed to the money would dry up. As soon as they stop making money and begin costing money they will go bye bye. Until then I say put em up all over the place. Eventually they will make the roads safer. Everyone will drive closer to the speed limit and people will actually know that a yellow light means prepare to stop not floor it to save 1 minute.

The large majority of the red light camera violations are for people making a right turn on red without coming to a COMPLETE, WHEELS STOP ALL MOTION, stop.

I got a red light ticket after making a right turn on red. It was one of those intersections that had an illuminated sign saying "No Turn On Red" that goes out and allows a right turn on red depending on traffic. I made my right turn on red after the sign extinguished and got a ticket. I figured the system had malfunctioned. I went to court with photographs of the intersection and the video that was mailed to me. The video showed the sign extinguishing long before I made the turn. The judge said that wasn't the reason. In the video, you can see that my wheels never stopped turning. I was going at less of a speed as a 3 year old can peddle a tricycle. I got the ticket anyway. That is the rule.

That is where most of the income comes from. Not someone blowing through a red light and endangering the public. This was nothing to do with safety and only a $150 toll booth.

I guess leftys never see any tax that they don't like, but the real problem is this bill of goods is being sold as primarily for safety and it's nothing of the kind. If they were really concerned about safety there are dozens of other things that could be done to improve safety. Better engineering of intersections would be a biggie, and really wouldn't cost much. In some other countries they have a countdown for when the light is going to change. I'm sure that does a lot more for preventing people misjudging red lights than bagging them for a nanosecond's miscalculation. But there's no money in that.

Oh, and I love this. Part of the website describing the camera system and the rules in Nassau County had videos of red light running incidents that's supposed to highlight the kind of thing these cameras are supposed to be capable of preventing. Guess what captured the videos? Uh huh, the red light cameras.

I looked for it, but it seems that it's gone now. Maybe somebody finally realized how stupid that argument was.

The truth is that the mayor and Corey Johnson are on some sort of anti-car crusade. I’m guessing that cars don’t exist in the kind of urban utopia that they are failing miserably to bring to fruition.

As far as your statement what these cameras don’t take into account is what is happening around my car. When a livery cab decides to stop in the middle lane of 1st Avenue to drop off or pickup a fare, there is a truck in the left lane, and my only option is to swerve into a bus lane in order to not get into an accident the camera can’t take that into account. Or how about that scooter/electric bike people whizzing around that we have to avoid?

Speed traps around schools is one thing. Cameras for every infraction of the law is a money grab plain and simple.

Avenger is correct 100%, RE : engineering...

that speed camera pole was installed so the lamppost is hiding it...

and did ya ever notice the yellow signal is only 3 seconds long without any difference to the speed limit and drops immediately into red... cellie...

I only read the first line. It's not a tax. Obey the law. Come to a complete stop like the law says. Drive under the speed limit imposed. I guess conservatives feel laws are only for others. If you do this you won't have to pay your so called tax. Don't know why this is so hard for conservaitves.

I am not a lefty. If you feel that I am then you must be a hard right conservative. You don't know me. I vote the man or woman not the party. I bet you can't say that. And that makes you a hard right conservative and me not a lefty. Carry on

Read your last line. Cameras for every "infraction of the law" you break the law you pay the price. I really dont get how hard this is for people. Don't break the law and you won't get a ticket or have to pay your so called "tax" . When those cameras stop making money and begin costing money then they will go away. Plain and simple ... well for some at least.

So let me see if I got this correct. You came to a red light didnt come to a COMPLETE STOP as you are supposed to and got a ticket. GUILTY. Not sure again where the problem is. Sure if it was a cop he likely wouldn't give you a ticket. But he could and would be right in doing so and you would still be guilty.

has nothing to do wit political affiliation, it’s bad engineering,... stand at any intersection and observe how fast the whole sequence takes in a 30 mph zone... calculate the stopping distance + other factors... C22...
