Have continued to bang away at my striped obsession, but recent observations have solidified something that has always nagged at me, that being drifting in lieu of anchoring over a specific chunk of real estate is superior. I've seen it time and time again, picking up fish while drifting, and because of wind or traffic conditions, I decide to drop the anchor. It seems that the frequency of bites goes down the second that anchor is set, and when I decide to pull the hook and go somewhere else, the first few cast after the anchor is back aboard get hit.
This happened 3 times the past few days at 3 different spots, and now I'll only reluctantly anchor if I'm in a dangerous situation like a lee shore. Nothing like having a fish on and trying to keep it on the hook with one arm, while I'm using the other arm to maneuver the boat safely away from rock ledges. But WTH, these data squelch any thoughts of spending thousands of dollars on a spot lock system...
Bass Count 2023 is now 217, 34 of those 28" or greater. Striper Sashimi is on tonight's menu at Chez Roccus...
