Spot lock? We don't need no stinking spot lock!!

Have continued to bang away at my striped obsession, but recent observations have solidified something that has always nagged at me, that being drifting in lieu of anchoring over a specific chunk of real estate is superior. I've seen it time and time again, picking up fish while drifting, and because of wind or traffic conditions, I decide to drop the anchor. It seems that the frequency of bites goes down the second that anchor is set, and when I decide to pull the hook and go somewhere else, the first few cast after the anchor is back aboard get hit.

This happened 3 times the past few days at 3 different spots, and now I'll only reluctantly anchor if I'm in a dangerous situation like a lee shore. Nothing like having a fish on and trying to keep it on the hook with one arm, while I'm using the other arm to maneuver the boat safely away from rock ledges. But WTH, these data squelch any thoughts of spending thousands of dollars on a spot lock system...

Bass Count 2023 is now 217, 34 of those 28" or greater. Striper Sashimi is on tonight's menu at Chez Roccus...

As always, Roccus, you find a way to work around the challenges your local Striper fishery poses. Well done on the technique as well as the results.

Regarding "Spot Lock" while some claim that the technology already exists to hold a vessel of my size and freeboard in place, I am still not convinced there is enough thrust or robust design in the current offerings. However, when it comes to Tog fishing as soon as the technology does reach out to vessels of my size, I cannot wait to get away from the nuisance of dealing taw traditional ground tackle, windlass or not!

PS: I love the title to this thread. IMHO, "Badges? We don't need no Stinking Badges" is one of the funniest lines from one of my all-time favorite movies! Thanks for the chuckle.

Actually, for the movie buffs out there I need to clarify my previous post.

The "Badges" line actually appeared in 2 films I am aware of. The first was the old Humphrey Bogart classic, "Treasure of the Sierra Madre". At one point in the film, Bogie comes upon some Mexican outlaws whom he believes may have stolen the gold he and his buddy had found. The Mexicans claimed to be Government agents or "Federales". Bogie's classic response to them was " If you are the Federales show us your badges" to which the classic line was the reply.

Years later Mel Brooks reprised the famous "Badges" line in "Blazing Saddles" a truly hilarious spoof on all Western films.
Once again, IMHO both uses of the line were extremely funny!

I don't know how you sleep at night knowing you're hammering away at the last good year class of striped bass ???

Wasn't that line also used at the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? Or am I mis-remembering?
