Steppingstones Park

had a family BBQ up a Steppingstones park, next to the MMA in Great Neck. Got there at low tide fish and nothing, waited till the tide came up a little and tried again.

Still nothing for me using shrimp and clam fishbites but a couple other guys pulled in a porgy and a sea robbin. Bottom seemed pretty sandy with a little weed. Not what I expected - I was hoping for a little rockier, so we had a good shot a some porgies,

I grew up there in the 60s and early 70s (Kings Point)! When flounder were abundant that place shined. We'd dig sandworms under the rocks there with a pitchfork and crush up mussels for chum. You'd catch 10 Bergals to every flounder but, hey, it was action. But our favorite fish to target there was blackfish. We'd have to go to Port Washington to buy fiddler crabs, this was b4 Asian crabs invaded the LI Sound. You'd drop down right next to the wooden pilings (even between the pier and the stair ramp) and hold on! It was quite a rush for us kids to catch 5-7 lb Tog. Especially when the boat owners saw us kids doing better off the pier than they did in the Sound. The Bluefish were only catchable early morning and at sunset. Was a gr8 place to spend summers and weekends growing up, thanks for stirring my memories. . . .

I thought the same thing, but the dock was pretty devoid of life. I think I dropped down next to every piling I could and got nothing!
