It's been a nice start to the season in the extreme west pursuing the rare and endangered striped bass.
I've managed a few bass every trip, but have yet to land the elusive lottery fish in the magical 28-31 slot.
Yesterday was my first time chunking this year. I must have had 6-7 short runs, but the fish would drop the bait before I could lock-up and start reeling. I blame it on store bought bunker, but it could have been my choice of hat or tee shirt.
I did get 2 under and 1 over with my spinning rod on swim baits, which was a lot of fun. Most exciting was the one that got away. I hooked up and couldn't stop this fish even after tightening my drag. After a first long run, I would gain 3 feet, then lose 4. Then poof, with the rod in a deep bend, the small treble hook on my swimming minnow pulled.
