Stripers and Fog

live bait

Well-Known Angler
Got out early this morning & made the run to Plum Gut. Flat conditions, with almost no wind & a cloudy sky. Got to the Gut & half way through the first drift, hook up with what feels like s good fish, only to drop it after a couple runs. Just as the sun looks like it wants to break through the clouds, the fog wins out & becomes thick. Pick my way to the next drift & boat a fat 34" striper for the box. Two drifts later, another striper, looks like a clone of the first, this guy is returned to the sea. Didn't think it was possible but the fog is getting thicker, a few more drifts & no hits, couple times I can see how close the ferry is on the radar, & can hear it but can't really see it, I can deal with the other fishing boats, but the ferry spooks me. That's enough for me, fishing is supposed to be comfortable & fun, time to head for the trailer. As soon as I clear the Gut & head west, crystal clear day, turn around & look towards the Gut & still a wall of fog, strange place.

Well done, John. I got a little later start with my charter this morning. Saw the fog rolling in while I was prepping bait at the dock. We worked the end of the flood in decent visibility and plenty of action but no keepers for a small 2 man charter today. Also had a bunch of Blues today which were not there on Monday.
Headed west back to the Peconics and enjoyed a solid bite on the Weaks this afternoon easily boating a limit with one real good fish for my customer, also named John. At 7.5# that's the best Weakfish we have caught this season so far. Real pretty fish under the mid day sun!
