Surf City Steve's Complete Ocean Beach Report - December 5, 2025

Overall Conditions:
The fall run is starting to wind down, but there's still some solid action to be had for the dedicated surf angler. The water is getting cold, but the bass are still around, and they're hungry. The key is to be in the right place at the right time, as the blitzes have been spotty.

Striped Bass:
The bass fishing has been a classic late-season affair, with periods of intense action followed by long lulls. The western South Shore has been the most consistent producer, with reports of bass in the teens and twenties blitzing on peanut and adult bunker. The action has been best from sunup to sundown, but you have to be willing to move around to stay on the fish. The JoeBaggs Skipper has been a hot lure, but bucktails, pencils, and metal lips have also been effective. The key is to match the hatch and be ready when the fish push the bait onto the beach.

Bluefish:
There have been very few reports of bluefish in the surf. The water is getting too cold for them, and they have likely moved on to warmer waters.

Upcoming Forecast:
The weather for the next few days is going to be cold and windy, which will make for some tough conditions. However, the bass should still be around. The key will be to find a weather window and be on the beach when the fish are feeding. This is likely the last good week of the fall run, so get out there and make the most of it.
