# Surf City Steve's Ocean Beach Report - October 3, 2025

What's up, surfcasters! Surf City Steve here with the latest from the Ocean Beach front. The fall run is in full swing, and the action is heating up along the coast!

## Ocean Beach Highlights

Shore anglers across Long Island are finding plenty of action as fall edges closer. The water temps are holding in the perfect zone – mid-60s close to shore with slightly cooler water just beyond the breakers. The baitfish are thick, which means the predators are close behind!

**South Shore docks** are loaded with **snappers, blowfish, and crabs**, making for easy family fun. **Fire Island Inlet** continues to produce quality **fluke** up to 8 pounds, along with **weakfish, schoolies, and the occasional albie**. **Cocktail blues** are popping up from Demo to Shinnecock, with night tides bringing **weakfish and bass** around the bridges and inlets.

## Regional Breakdown:

* **South Shore:**
* **Amityville & surrounding areas:** Local docks are lively with snappers and blowfish. Steady fluke bite from the docks near Captree, with shorts and keepers. Snapper, crab, and blowfish action excellent off Mascot Dock, Blue Point, and Sayville piers. Bridges near the inlet are giving up nice weakfish on soft plastics after dark, with schoolie stripers also present.
* **North Shore:**
* **Northport:** Cocktail-sized blues are running around the harbor and along the Sound beaches. Large schools of peanut bunker are packed inside the bay, and stripers are being caught.
* **Glenwood Landing:** Porgies and spot are still coming from the beaches, mostly on clam or sandworm baits. Some weakfish are also being seen.
* **Miller Place:** Porgies remain steady at Cedar Beach and off the local docks, with clams and squid strips being the ticket. Some cocktail bluefish are chasing bait.
* **North Fork:** Porgies are still thick along many of the points, and some stripers to 30 pounds have been taken around Orient on topwater plugs during the day.
* **East End:**
* **Shinnecock East:** Stripers to 30 pounds taken on topwater poppers during moving water at first light. Bluefish are also active.
* **Quogue to Westhampton:** Stripers at night along the beaches, with swimming plugs producing best during the incoming tide. Some albies are blitzing inside Shinnecock Bay.

## Tactical Recommendations

For surfcasters, focus on the moving tides, especially around dawn and dusk. Topwater plugs and soft plastics are working well for stripers and blues. For fluke, bucktails and Gulp! are still the go-to. Keep an eye on bird activity – they'll often lead you to the bait and the fish. The cooler water temperatures are bringing the fish closer to shore, so get out there and enjoy the fall run!
