OK, been sitting on my hands waiting for someone else to start this thread long enough. Seeing a total solar eclipse has always been high on my bucket list. Immediately the partial solar eclipse that I witnessed here in 2017, I discovered that we'd be getting a total one on April 8, 2024 with path of totality clipping through Maine's north woods. The long-term immediately started...
AND there is the weather forecast... After the state got socked with that major storm Wednesday and Thursday, I figured the cloud cover will suck. So glad I was wrong, it's looking light a blue bird day up there, and our friends have a standby generator up there so even if power isn't restored, we'll be fine.
Anybody else have plans for this truly, once in a lifetime event??
- Knowing Maine weather, set my expectations very low for a cloudless day in early April. Databases gave that a 25% chance of happening. What the hell, even having night pop up at 15:30 in the afternoon would be cool.
- Ordered a multiple sets of Solar Sunglasses
- Started checking on accommodations in the path of totality. Figured an overnight stay would be important as "the" path was a good 3 hour drive from Chez Roccus.
THANK YOU POSEIDON!!! Very good friends with a house on the ocean side of the peninsula bought a house up near Greenville in 2020, smack dab in the middle of the path!! Weaseled an invite for the Admiral and I.
