the "Headline That Caught My Attention or the WTF" thread

Interesting headline of a "Soon to be coming to your state university" situation. I have mixed emotions here, but IMO any institute of higher education should not be shutting down majors while there are students enrolled in that major. If majors need to be trimmed, then they should stop accepting new students for that major and once they've all graduated, then the closure can commence...

Slashing Its Budget, West Virginia University Asks, What Is Essential?

The state’s flagship school will no longer teach world languages or creative writing — a sign, its president says, of the future at many public universities.

Read the article earlier today - Bowl games and their expenses take precedence.
When colleges are building water parks for students to attend, who could possibly be surprised about this?

That only for new construction or must all buildings comply? If existing buildings are not grandfathered, talk about "Escape from New York"!!
All existing buildings over 25000 sq feet ,with some carve outs, guess what some of them are i.e NYCHA and others.

If I was a younger man I’d be packing up the U Haul.

I have been busy lately and fell behind on the news.

I swear that looked like a woman when I watched the video on TV. (Butt ugly with a nice rack.) At the news conference, the Nassau police commissioner as well as TV news ect referred to the perp as a woman. What gives? Now a man??

Not really, this says it all..................

Others, including Brennan, pointed out that the utility company Hawaiian Electric was aware since 2019 that more effort needed to be made to prevent power lines from emitting sparks that could cause wildfires. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company invested less than $250,000 on wildfire projects before finally requesting state permission to raise rates in 2022.

Instead, the company was focused on state-mandated efforts to switch to renewable energy.

Sick radical climate religion activists.

Access to water should be predicated on “conversations about equity,” according to the Hawaii official under fire for delaying access to water during the Maui wildfires.

The West Maui Land Company said in an Aug. 10 letter to Manuel that his commission refused its request to divert streams to fill landowners’ reservoirs in the hard-hit Lahaina area until the wildfires raged out of control, according to a report.

Sources told Honolulu Civil Beat that Manuel had asked the company to consult with a local farmer about the impact of water diversion before approving their request.

“We watched the devastation around us without the ability to help,” said the company in the letter. “We anxiously awaited the morning knowing that we could have made more water available to MFD [Maui Fire Department] if our request had been immediately approved.”
