This article assumes everyone who crosses the border does so illegally. Had anyone taken the time to read the source material one would see:
On Monday, dozens of people gathered at Brunswick Landing to celebrate 60 new apartment units going up in five buildings. Twenty-four of them are already complete. These units are designed to house asylum seekers, as they wait to receive work permits. That process can often take a while, since asylum seekers can’t even file for a permit until at least six months after filing their initial asylum applications.
The state has been diligent in ensuring that the folks here are documented asylum seekers. Our Federal reps have been proposing legislation to accelerate the ability to have these asylum seekers to be legally employed. They want jobs, and there isn't a single business sector here that isn't screaming for workers.
That being said, Jack is pretty spot on, as with all the seasonal jobs up here, Maine is very aggressive in getting work visa as a basic step to help the hospitality industry. Crazy, but few teenagers get summer jobs, and God forbid somebody from Lawnguyland faces a long line at the ice cream shop in July!!
