the "Headline That Caught My Attention or the WTF" thread

How about drug reps who ply doctors with lunches, dinner, trips etc, etc just so the write scripts for their products!

Gee, conflict of interest?

Some doctors are complete whores for these companies!!!!
that goes on everywhere.......................

In my former life as a Purchasing Director for Estee Lauder I awarded roughly $200 million in business annually for packaging. Not for particular componet but for all new launch materials needed to send new products to market. It didn't all go to one supplier - but - dozens & dozens.

to potentially throw the business their way I was offered:
  • Concert Tickets
  • Lunch (by the score - all dressed in satin & waiting by the door)
  • I was once offered a Family Vacation to East Germany (after the wall fell) by a German supplier to spend Christmas in a 12th Century Castle
  • Sports Tickets
  • House for a week on Fire Island (pretty much each summer)
  • Access to Condiminiums on Mount Snow during skiing season several times
  • Fishing Charters
  • Was once even offered a substantial discount on a Benz.
  • Golf Outtings (I don't golf)
  • etc. etc.

And on & on. It was never overtly offered as a bribe but............................

It's pretty much what salesman do. It's a common practice when there's REAL money involved.

I took some of the lunches until I stopped eating lunch as they were sanctioned by upper management. We were forbidden to accept anything over $30 & required to report it. Which pretty much none did.

I only handled new launch materials & Travel Retail for Lauder Treatment products.

Emergency Rule Adopted Abolishing Bass Limits In Washington County Lake to Eliminate Invasive Fish - The Maine Wire Emergency Rule Adopted Abolishing Bass Limits In Washington County Lake to Eliminate Invasive Fish
We see these headlines every day. The Landlocked Salmon and native Brook Trout boys cry like babies when they find any non-salmonoid fish in their favorite water.

It's a state law to NEVER release a Northern Pike if you catch one which are also considered invasive!! Eagles love ice fishermen who leave Pikecicles out on the ice for them...

One person had to be rescued from the water and later hospitalized Wednesday after two boats collided in the Atlantic Ocean off Fire Island, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

About 6 a.m., the Long Island sector received a radio report of a boat collision about 17 miles south of Fire Island, the Coast Guard said.

Responding Coast Guard personnel determined a 31-foot vessel called "Birthcontrol," with two passengers on board, and a 29-foot Ocean Runner named "Jennap," also with two on board, had collided.

The boats are recreational vessels, according to the NYPD, which assisted in the rescue effort.

One man suffered a laceration and broken rib, and was pulled from the water onto the Ocean Runner, the Coast Guard said.

The ocean conditions were relatively calm, with 5-foot waves and light winds out of the south-southwest, according to the National Weather Service. The water temperature recorded at the nearest buoy was about 70 degrees at 6 a.m., the service said.

Around 7:15 a.m., an NYPD helicopter and divers airlifted the man to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition. An update on his condition was not immediately available late Wednesday.

Coast Guard crews assisted with pumping water from the vessels and towing them back to Coast Guard Station Fire Island, authorities said.

Additional information, including the condition of the other three boaters involved in the crash, or what led up to it, was not immediately available late Wednesday.
