Not true, air, which is mostly Nitrogen, behaves much the same as pure Nitrogen as far as all of the gas laws regarding pressure, volume and temperature.

However, I got this snippet regarding N2 vs air:

Since nitrogen molecules are bigger than the other normal air molecules, it is harder for them to leak out. This means a tire filled with nitrogen will maintain air pressure longer. Therefore, they say, you'll roll on tires that are always properly inflated, resulting in better fuel economy and longer tire life.

Since air is 78% Nitrogen to begin with, using pure nitrogen is only a modest advantage...
