Feeling relieved and smug. Called up my daily weight chart and somehow it either got damaged or more likely, I accidentally dragged my fat fingers over the touch pad and erased a big chunk of it yesterday just before I saved it.

No worries, in that I backup my critical files every day, so I spent 5 minutes retrieving the file from Monday's backup, and entered yesterday and today's data, making sure I didn't F it up again.

Both religious folk and Nerds follow the lesson of "Jesus Saves!"

So the American Red Cross has finally edited their eligibility questions regarding Mad Cow Disease, making it easier for folks who lived in The Republic of Ireland for less than 5 years (me) to donate blood. They used to group Ireland and France in with the UK, including Northern Island, and one was deferred if they spent more than a few months there in the late 80s-early 2000s.

I found out about the question change after hearing about critical blood shortages so last month I signed up to donate today. Went on the website to "pre-register" early this AM and was greeted with a long list of medication questions which were new to me. Turns out my finasteride for BPH is on a very long, and complicated no-no list, so I'm sitting here complaining instead of rolling up my sleeve. If transfused to a pregnant woman, the finasteride could cause birth defects to the fetus, and I sure wouldn't want that to happen.

To donate I would have to stop taking the drug a month before the donation, but the drug needs to be taken daily to work, so I guess I'll continue to be out of the pool of blood donors. Damn shame, I had been a regular donor until I returned from Ireland in '97, even donating regularly in Ireland which was NO SWEAT at all. Irish Blood Transfusion Services is far more civilized. Instead of that little container of cranberry or orange juice you get for an ARC donation, they believe a "Pint for a Pint" and the pint they offer to adults can be either Guinness or Smithwick's!!!
