The never ending chat thread, chat about anything That your up too

Still have my bass & picked up an acoustic just before COVID arrived. Play for my own enjoyment.

Have a small amp for the bass that I'll play alongside what's in the Player. It's hollow body so I can "doodle along" without the amp most of the times but I do love "plugging" it in,

Love the bass.
Bass is different from guitar?

completely a different animal - it's part of the rythm section rather then the lead - should compliment the drums - although McCartney sort of charted a new role for it - difficult to sing lead or harmony when playing - takes a lot of practice
So you never really played guitar? and only picked up Bass playing during covid?

I've been playing guitar since the late 1960's. Playing bass began shorty thereafter. Played in & out of several bands up until mid 80's - kept with the bass all along to keep myself entertained & then repurchased an acoustic intending to relearn that.

Where is this going & why are you so interested?

That was so 50 years ago. “Lead” being a guitar is past tense and rhythm is 99% of the song not just a part. Les Claypool opened the doors. I can comment on Paul or the Beatles. They were like that Jack-In-The-Box toy sound to me.

Since this is the what are you up to thread, I’ll go with laughing at the way this discussion is going🤣🤣🤣

I’ll chime in and say Lead and Rhythm from a guitar perspective are very much still a thing when a band has 2 guitarists
One will take the faster paced, sometimes in your face, catchy sound or “lick” of a song and thats lead. The other more or less strums chords in the background and hence creates the rhythm of the song
Now, the bass which is technically a guitar, is usually playing more in line with the drummer keeping the beat and together they create the “rhythm section”
Nothing more fun than a band with 2 talented guitarists that trade leads/leaks back and forth with rhythm and you gotta pay attention and see who is playing which.

That said, I’m pretty you all know this and were just tweaking Wader 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️😎

I’ve always wanted to learn to play a guitar. So when I retired some years ago I purchased a guitar thinking now I’ll have some time, and learn to play.
It’s been sitting untouched in this corner for over 5 years now.

At least if you buy a treadmill or some other useless exercise equipment that you’ll never use you can always just hang clothes and chit on it.

Maybe I’ll start learning to play……. Tomorrow probably. 😉

Don't feel too bad. Lots of mediocre guitar players have a dozen guitars. Even though they can only play one at a time, and usually not that well.

You know it's different from the fish, right?

Anecdotal dad joke: I went to one of Avenger Jr.'s middle school concerts and the woman next to me (Not Mrs. Avenger) lamented that she felt bad for these kids who had to lug those big, heavy basses around.* Except she pronounced it like the fish. So I pointed out that since they had chosen the instrument, so they really can't carp about it

-Insert rimshot-

*Real string bass fiddles, not guitars.

There's shop here in town run by a husband & wife who moved down here after a stint in Louisiana from Northport NY. Their specialty?

The husband - Bill is a uthier who builds custom guitars & upright basses, Some really nice one of a kind stuff. Most price tags are north of $1000 a piece. They also hold mini concerts on the sidewalk with anywhere from 3 to 5 other musicans on 2nd Fridays.

Bill's wife - Lynn is also an artist (sculpture & painting) which also available.
Their online business is thriving.
Nice couple.
