Just got back from my moms. she parked her car on the street last night and around 12:30am someone in a truck slammed into the back of her car and totaled it. Her car then smashed into the back of a jeep wrangler in front of her, which destroyed the whole front of her car as well (jeep is fine). The fucker did a hit and run, prob drunk, but they have the truck on a neighbors doorcam and pulling from a nest video, looks to be a honda ridgeline perhaps. Left a trail of fluid which I followed around the area until I couldn't find it anymore. Hope they catch they person. Fortunately, she has coverage so picking up a rental later and will see if the insurance money leaves her with anything after the loan is paid off. Crazy morning.

Update: mom just called, they got him! the officer from this morning called her and they tracked the guy down, who admitted to the hit and run. They wrote him tickets so far and are working on more charges potentially but wouldn't elaborate. Hats off to the 2nd Precinct!

I think they know that if they are drunk & leave the scene, they may end up getting charged with leaving the scene, but 8 or 10 hours later no one can prove they were drunk.

Correct.. it will just be a VTL ticket for leaving scene of accident with property damage. Now you just have to prove he was driving or why he left the scene etc

Cop stopped by my moms to hand off the final police report. They arrested the kid, 36 y/o, didn't specify any additional reasons. Coincidentally, the trail of car fluids that I followed on the ground for a few twisty blocks, turns out I was on the right track he lived right around there and the neighborhood of my mom.
