The State should built a boat ramp in Montauk

Somewhere in Montauk they gotta find land to build a boat ramp. Next door to Star Island Marina/down the road from the Coast Guard Station ,there's a 5 acre parcel of woods that was for sale. Don't know if it's still for sale or not. Get money from federal fishing funds, charge $20 to launch and the cost will easily be covered. A ramp in Montauk, another ramp in Western Peconic Bay , that ramp in Southold takes forever to get to. Build 2 ramps Mid Sound.

I'm sure the average resident of LI would be more than willing to pay more taxes to get this done

Fishing fund money would pay a big chunk of the cost, they could charge $25 to launch until it's paid off. More than anything, special interests will try to block it. Look how long it took to get the first ever State Ramp on Peconic Bay and at Captree. They had plenty of land to build a ramp at Captree and they never would consider it until Nick Karas of Newsday got involved and many private citizens complained about no ramp there.

Go to the Montauk yacht club and ask how much they charge for 1 night transient slip.

Your $20 means nothing out there..........

Gone are the days when there were fishing reports in local newspapers and fishing and hunting writers with a lot of clout like Nick Karas who'd get on the phone and demand things from the state. Too bad Cuomo had to resign, he'd get the ramps. Kathy Hochul is a disaster for sportsmen.

Nick Karas was the messenger. It was the anglers that went direct to their reps and got things done. We had the clout, and we fought like hell. This is a different angler today. I'm not knocking them I'm just saying . . .

In the 90's there were thousands of written comments that were sent in on rules regs. This year we had a whopping 79 on striped bass.

How about reallocating from the garbage they spend my money on now.

Not new taxes.
I don't disagree one bit and was obviously being sarcastic
Unfortunately, not everybody on LI has boat or a boat that they trailer, and a boat ramp is not a priority for the majority of our population
I find that weird and sad that peeps live here on LI and don't care about the water and boating

And I agree too.

Put the money into it and charge maybe an annual and/or per use fee and the money will COME BACK from the folks who use it. So those who do not, will not be paying.

Right now I have zero say on how my money is wasted with little to no return to my family.

Talking about a state owned ramp. What does that have to do with a transient slip at MYC?
That transient slip generates more revenue than a ramp ever could without the crowds. The locals have their ramp. If you want to launch go to ulheins or star island.

Montauk has become the land of the borgioisie. The trustees could care less about a guy trailering his boat for a day of fluking.

Not to get off topic, but does the 79 count emailed comments or just snail mail ?

Maybe the State should partner with a Marina out there, build a first class ramp ,parking lot , the marina can charge $25-$30 to launch , the state would maintain the ramp. The marina would get alot of business selling bait, fuel, doing repairs, transient docking.

Yeah people just love when the government and private businesses cross the line and do "business ' together.

I'd keep a boat out in Montauk if I had something comfortable to sleep on. A nice 35 footer with a nice cabin would be a nice summer home out there . Last I checked the dock would be 5-6 thousand for the season, winter storage is much cheaper . You go out for a week at a time it'll quickly pay for itself . 1 night at Snug Harbor is $350 peak season ! Me and my family stayed out there almost every summer weekend in 1972 and 1973 . The 5 of us lived aboard a 27 foot Wooden Cabin cruiser. That's the only way the average person could summer out there these days. My father started working for NYC around 1970 as an Engineer, he was low in the pay scale, my mother was a stay at home mom. With that City salary, my parents owned a home in Nassau /South Shore, they had a new 1973 Ford 4 door LTD car, a 27 foot boat docked at Snug Harbor Marina in Montauk and sent 3 kids to Catholic school !!!!! How they managed that on 1 salary I don't know. But they did ! I remember them living pay check to pay check and sometimes they ran out of money .
