The State should built a boat ramp in Montauk

Yeah people just love when the government and private businesses cross the line and do "business ' together.
That always goes well

They partner with towns out on the East End and build ramps. The state can purchase a right of way thru a marina to build a ramp.

To put things in perspective, you show up with your panga. Spend $100 on fuel, $30 bait $30 lunch $40 tackle=$200

Guy who stayed for the weekend on his 38Cabo to inshore tuna fish and fluke fish..$800 on fuel. $150 bait. Add $300 tackle..... without lunch $1200+ for the weekend. As much as you probably spend in a season.

When I worked out there, every summer weekend the CT boats would stop to fuel and pickup odds and ends. Each boat usually spent several hundred to thousands of dollars between food, fuel, ice, tackle....

When I trailered my boat out there (90s) Montauk was much more small boat friendly.

$100 on fuel ? I was thinking about pulling into Montauk Marine Basin and buy 3 or 4 gallons of gas because that's all I need for a full day off Montauk. I'd spend $100 on gas to tow it out there from Western Nassau.
If NY was for the little guy they'd build a ramp out there so average people can fish out there. What a waste having a boat out there and you don't fish. I bet half the fleet out there doesn't fish much.
I went out there with my boat in 1993 and 1994 right after labor day and Snug Harbor charged $500 to dock a 31 footer until season end. We had a wonderful time catching all the Tuna we wanted 20 miles out, tons of Mahi Mahi and 2 or 3 trips to Coxes Ledge, super Bass Fishing on the North Side on Bunker chunks or trolling parachute rigs under the Lighthouse.

Although it is a bit off topic, I too fondly recall those days when you could "bail out" a poor offfshore forecast with some beautiful winter flounder.

I just came across these 2 photos of myself and the wife from nearly 20 years ago. Had planned to take the new boat out for some spring Cod but the big seas changed that plan. Ducked into Lake Montauk to save the day with some solid Flounder fishing. Really makes me sad as I can still taste those sweet filets in my mind!

Actually, Overbored, that is my current vessel, the Albin 28, when she was just a baby herself! She has aged gracefully and now, more importantly, she is all mine. Only one payment left!!!

Mitch you are very kind regarding the photo. The funny part for me is that although I kind of look the same, every piece of clothing I was wearing that chilly April day is now history! And I have a bad habit of holding on to old fishing clothes right down to the last thread!!!

Maybe the State should partner with a Marina out there, build a first class ramp ,parking lot , the marina can charge $25-$30 to launch , the state would maintain the ramp. The marina would get alot of business selling bait, fuel, doing repairs, transient docking.

There are already places to launch in Montauk without involving the State , that’s the last thing the residents need!
